For
many years Fred Olsen has been interested in the concept of kiln
as sculpture. When he met and worked with Nina Hole, one of Denmark's
leading ceramic artists who was making large scale sculptures to
be built in situ, all the factors came together and this new direction
in his work began.
He
works on his own design of sculptures as well as working colaboratively
with Hole, like on the fired sculpture at the 2002 International
Academy of Ceramics Congress in Greece.
. . . . . .
Olsen
has built his solo sculpture kilns in Wales at the International
Ceramics Festival in 2001, Nove Ceramics Festival in Italy, at Saddleback
college in California and, mosts recently in 2005 at the annual
Feuerfest in Zurich in Italy.
These
sculpture kilns are built and fired in situ over a period of about
10 days. Often held as a workshop, participants are involved in
every part of this fascinating process - from construction and firng
to the unveiling - providing a wonderful opportunity to be part
of a unique happening.

If
you are interested in commissioning a sculpture kiln firing, please
contact Fred Olsen and he will be pleased to discuss the possibilities.
